Why…?

Why are we here? How did the earth come to exist? What is the meaning of life? These are profound questions that have perplexed people throughout the world and throughout the ages. Yet here in the twenty-first century, with all t he information available to us and with the advantage of high-powered super- computers, even the most “intelligent” thinkers are unable to provide satisfying answers to these questions.

We live in a day in which great confidence is placed in scientific research. In fact, many people insist that they will refuse to believe anything unless it can be scientifically “proven.” But to think that we can answer the great questions of meaning and existence by means of objective scientific investigation is really quite foolish. If it were your goal to scientifically prove or disprove the existence of God or the truthfulness of the Bible, would you have even a slim hope of accomplishing it? Your mind is by far too small to even begin to think of reading and discovering all the facts and information relevant to such a pursuit-let alone digesting all that data. You were not there at the beginning, when God brought this universe into being out of nothing. The end of this present age, when God will reveal Himself and judge all men, has obviously not yet occurred. But once you are able to “scientifically” observe it for yourself, it will be too late! Furthermore, you are not entirely objective. Even if you could witness the beginning and the end of all things and have the capacity to know whatever comes in between, you would not evaluate all the evidence in a completely objective manner. No mere man is entirely objective. Even if your investigation were limited to simply evaluating all of the existing religions in the world, it would be impossible for you to give serious consideration to any more than the smallest fraction of the world’s religions in your short lifetime.
Well, then, are we just left in the dark? Must we conclude that these great questions are simply unanswerable? Thankfully, no. God has kindly given us a record of all the truth we need to know in order to come to know Him and to live with Him forever in glory. That record is the Bible, the word of God. God has revealed Himself to us in the Bible. What He has revealed is that He is a holy and righteous God and that we have sinned against Him by breaking His commands. (That is why the Bible calls all men sinners. And it is our sinfulness that makes us utterly unable to make an honest and accurate judgment about God’s truth.) Because God is a God of justice, He punishes those who sin against Him by sending them to hell, the lake of fire. Nevertheless, the Bible also reveals that God is a God of love, and that He has sent His own Son, Jesus Christ, to save His people from their sins. He did this by obeying all of God’s laws and by suffering death on the cross in the place of His people. On the cross, Jesus Christ endured the wrath of God the Father against sin.

Your only hope to be saved from the eternal suffering of God’s wrath in hell is to believe in Jesus Christ, the only Savior of sinners. Confess your sins to God today and ask for forgiveness in the name of Jesus Christ. As Scripture says, “There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). The word of God also assures us that, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9), and, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame” (Romans 9:33). Believe in Christ, today! God calls you to do so.
